March 1, 2009. Area residents excel in the New York State Championships.
The Solomon Schechter school team of
Ben Gershenov,
Michael Bodek,
Alexander Reis,
Joshua Abady,
Max Steinberg,
Jared Goldfarb,
Hannah Steinberg, and
Samuel Siegel
won the New York State Junior High Championship. Ben Gershenov won the Championship trophy on tiebreak over Michael Bodek. Alexander Reis and Corey Sansola also won individual trophies, while Joshua Abady just missed one on tiebreaks.

In the Elementary section, Michael Ainsworth, Kevin Rosenberg and William Graif all tied for 2nd place . Anthony Panat, Jasmine Chen, Joshua Colas, Eric Zhang, and Michael Bogaty also won trophies. In the team championship, the Scarsdale Middle School team of
Michael Bogaty,
Zachary Martin,
Rahul Gosain, and
Morgan Lawless finished in 6th place, while the Mamaroneck Avenue School team of
Michael Ainsworth and
Joshua Colas finished 7th.

In the Elementary Novice section, The Solomon Schechter school team of Gabriel Siegel, Elijah Siegel, and Miriam Steinberg won the 7th place trophy. Gabriel Siegel won the 7th place individual trophy, and Elijah Siegel won the 1st place under 600 trophy.
