April 5, 2009. Solomon Schechter wins a National title
Hot on the heels of their New York State Championship win in March the Solomon Schechter school team of
Ben Gershenov,
Michael Bodek,
Max Steinberg,
Alexander Reis,
Joshua Abady, and
Jared Goldfarb
won the National K-9 Championship at the SuperNationals IV in Nashville, Tennessee. Ben Gershenov won the title of National K-9 co-Champion, scoring 6.5/7.
Other Results. Congratulations to Kevin Rosenberg, who tied for 2nd in the K-6 Championship, scoring 6/7. Joshua Colas also won a trophy in the K-6 with 5/7. In the K12 U1600 event, Matthew Zigmont trophied with 5.5/7. In the K9 U1250 event, Zachary Martin placed 4th with 6/7. In the K8 U750 event, Hannah Steinberg trophied with 5.5/7.
Hunter Success. The Hunter team won the K-1 Championship. Hunter is coached by FM Sunil Weeramantry, the NSCF Executive Director.
Speed chess. The Solomon Schechter team of Bodek, Steinberg, Goldfarb, Abady and Reis finished 5th in the Blitz K-9 event and the MS15 team of Sean Sookram and Minh Phuong Mac finished 4th in the Blitz K-6.
