Community School District 10 Chess Teams

Community School District Ten Chess Teams attended the following National Torunaments in three different sections: High School, Junior high School, and Elementary. Within each Section there are different levels according to their rating.

Rating is a player's strength measurement done by the U.S. Chess Federation. A higher rating means a harder section.

School Teams and individuals are lilsted according to the section they played at the Nationals.

  1. High School Level
    National High School (K-12) Chess Championship
    March 21-23, 2003 Columbus, Ohio

    MS 45

      Section K-12 Under 1500
      Frankie Lospoto, Musa Alioski, Jon Speller. The Team achieved 31st Place with only three instead of four players.

      Section K-12 Under 1200
      Anthony Stoddart (17th Place Individual), Dhanwandai Sahadeo, Tulsidai Sahadeo, Nelson Betancourt, Codey Pinero, Crystal Tuck, Bardh Jahjaga, Juan Azcona, Ernesto Tobar, Felix Feliciano. Team: 8th Place.

      Section K-12 Under 900
      Roman Mendez (1st Place under 700), Arben Besimoski (3rd Place under 500), Louis Romain, Leo Muniz, Jose Santiago, Steven Mesa. Team: 16th Place.

      It's nice to see that former National Champions from MS45 Continue practicing chess. Deyvi Ortiz and Trieu Nguyen were two top players in the Clinton High School Team that achieved 21st place in the Secion K-12 Under 1200.

      Section K-12 Under 1200
      Andres Torres, David Galvan, James Roberts.

      Section K-12 Under 900
      Harmarie Lebron, Joshua Acquaye, Gilvert Rosa, David Rivera. Team: 10th Place. This is the first time they played at the High School level at Nationals.

    National Junior High (K-9) Chess Championship
    April 25-27, 2003 Kissimmee, Florida

    MS 118

      Section K-8 Championship
      Evan Alvarez(14th Place Individual), Tolulupe Oladela (3rd Place Under 1400), Brian Singh, Akil Griffiths, Christian Rodriguez, Joshua Soto, Medina Parilla, Tanisha Millan. Team: 4th Place.

      Section K-8 Under 1250
      Calvin McEachron (8th Place Under 1250), Jay Calvo, Lisa Baccus, Mohammed Sadiq. Team: 7th Place.

      This school also attended the 2002 K-12 Scholastic Chess Championship in Atlanta, Georgia on December 13-15, 2002. Results:

        Sixth grade: Medina Parilla (19th Place Individual), Tanisha Millan, Tolulupe Oladele. Team: 1st Place.

        Seventh grade: Christian Rodriguez (1st Place under 1400), Akil Griffiths, Calvin McEachron. Team: 2nd Place.

        Eight grade: Evan Alvarez (13th Place), Brian Singh, Mohammed Sadiq, Jay Calvo, Patryk Odedina, George Odedina. Team: 3rd Place.

    PS 15

      Section K-8 Under 1250
      Manuel de la Cruz (8th under 1050), Salvador Gonzalez, Juan Liriano, Anthony Javier, Jomar Quintana. Team: 14th Place (14-15 same score).

      Section K-8 Under 1000
      Edgar Reojas (3rd Under 600), Terrence Peters, Julio Baez, Victor Pelaez, Amanda Delgado, Christian Rohor. Team: 13th Place (13-17 same score).

    PS 159

      Section K-8 Under 750
      Luis Ramos (45th Place - honorable Mention), Andrew Pinto (3rd Place Unrated), Angel Pinto, Andrew Osorio, Fernando Martinez, Kenneth Interiano, Crystal Roman, Mario Tlatelpa, Manuel Lopez. Team: 9th Place.

  3. Elementary Level
    National Elementary (K-6) Chess Championship
    May 8-11, 2003 Nashville, Tennessee

      Dashawn Youmans, Ulises Benscome, Victor Melendez, Jose Taveras, Jhoroly Cruz. Team: 13th Place.

      Bao Nguyen (4th Place), Kelvin Oppong (20th Place), Branchy Perez, Scarlett Sanchez, Joseph Lucero. Team: 3rd Place.

    PS 279

      Section K-6 Under 1000
      Zihad Uddin (11th Place), Jordan La Marche (3rd Place unrated), Mahfuzur Miah and Shebab Hassan (25th Place - 36 players achieved the same score), Amir Uddin, Fatema Elias. Team: 3rd Place.

    PS 37

      Section K-5 Under 1000
      Anthony Konkowski (9th Place Individual). There was no team; he was the only player from this school.

with 8 schools that went to Nationals.
