WGM Rusudan Goletiani

Womens Grandmaster, Chess Instructor

Rusudan ("Rusa") is an International Womens Grandmaster (WGM). She has won the World Youth Chess Championship three times in various age categories (girls under-14, girls under-16, girls under-18).

Rusa keeps a busy schedule of teaching chess in schools. Her students have won first place in several NSCF tournaments. Rusa loves working with children, especially girls. Formerly from Soviet Georgia, Rusa hails from a part of the world where every schoolgirl is taught chess. She knows that chess does not have to be a male-dominated sport. Rusa says: "In chess, women can compete on an equal basis with men."

UPDATE: In 2004, Rusa won the prestigious Samford Fellowship, which subsidizes the most promising young U.S. players as they pursue successful careers as chess competitors. She is on leave from teaching for the NSCF for the duration of the fellowship. Rusa has most recently distinguished herself as a competitor by winning the title of 2005 U.S. Women's Champion!
