About Hikaru.
Born December 9, 1987, Hikaru made National headlines in 1998 when he became the youngest USCF National Master ever at the age of only 10 years and 79 days. He made International headlines in February 1999 when he beat Grandmaster Alexander Stripunsky in regulation time control, at the record age of 11 years and two months. In October 2000, he tied for third in the under-14 section of the World Youth Championships, and was awarded the FIDE Master title at the age of 12. In early 2001, at age 13, Hikaru earned the International Master title. In September 2001, Hikaru won the U.S. Junior Championship, the youngest to do so since Bobby Fischer. In January 2002, Hikaru made his first Grandmaster norm at the Bermuda International GM-A tournament. In December 2002, Hikaru made his second Grandmaster norm at the Los Inmortales IV tournament in Santo Domingo. In February 2003, Hikaru made his final Grandmaster norm at the Bermuda International GM-B tournament, and became the youngest American Grandmaster ever!

In 2004 GM Hikaru Nakamura made the FIDE list of top Juniors, and was ranked as the top player of his age in the world. The July 2004 list of the top 20 Juniors shows Hikaru rated 11th, and no one under 17 was rated higher!
