Ten year old chess player Hikaru Nakamura, a student at the Ridgeway School in White Plains, has beaten the record for the youngest American master ever. On February 26, 1998, at the age of ten years and 79 days, he raised his United States Chess Federation rating to 2203, after completing a tournament at the Marshall Chess Club. On his way, he scored his second win against an International Master, defeating IM Alex Stripunsky on February 19:
