The National Scholastic Chess Foundation (NSCF) is a non-profit
organization created for educational purposes under section 501(c)(3) of
the Internal Revenue Code. The NSCF was founded in 1990.
The Executive Director of the NSCF is
FIDE Master Sunil Weeramantry.
The NSCF advocates for chess as a component of quality education in schools across America.
The Foundation also provides financial support for national tournaments, including co-sponsoring the
Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions (all state champions compete
in this national invitational), and co-sponsoring the annual Chess Scholars Award of scholarships for
aspiring chess players who are also demonstrating proficiency in their schooling and a commitment
to their communities.
In addition, the NSCF serves in over 30 communities in southern New York and southwestern Connecticut,
including Ardsley, Armonk, Bronxville, Chappaqua, Clarkstown, Cortlandt, Darien, Dobbs Ferry,
Eastchester, Edgemont, Greenburgh, Greenwich, Harrison, Irvington, Katonah, Larchmont, Mahopac,
Mamaroneck, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Ossining, Pelham, Pelham Manor, Pocantico Hills, Portchester,
Purchase, Riverside, Rye, Rye Neck, Scarsdale, Somers, Southport, Stamford, Tarrytown, White Plains,
and Yonkers.
Overall, we provide over 150 programs serving over 70 schools .
