In September 2017, Sunil will celebrate 40 years as a chess educator. Over his career he has had the pleasure of seeing many of his students go on to master level and above and to represent the US in chess competitions around the world. And he's had countless national champions, both team and individual. But even more important are the students who have gone on to success in college and in life who reach out to him to tell him how studying chess was instrumental in their later success. Our 40th Anniversary Appeal is focused on helping to package up what Sunil has figured out by trial and error so that countless more students can benefit from scholastic chess.

NSCF curriculum development programs are helping to expand the use of chess to improve outcomes in American education.

Over the past three years, the NSCF has developed and piloted a teacher training program comprised of two eight-hour workshops and additional online support. Over 400 teachers in schools and community programs in Broward County, Florida have completed at least one workshop. Dozens of free chess programs in schools, summer camps and other centers serving young people have opened throughout the county. Your support will help us take this program to other communities across the nation. (We've already trained 30 teachers in Fresno County, California!)

In addition, Sunil and the NSCF team have been writing a new blended learning textbook that teaches chess and social studies. Entitled "Great Moves: Learning Chess Through History," the goal of this project is to use chess to increase cultural literacy among middle school students. This book is in its final stages before going to print and will be released by Fall 2017!

We are now working on a new curriculum program to bring chess to early learners (pre-K and kindergarten).

Your support will help us grow these efforts. Thank you for your kind consideration.
