2001 World Youth Chess Championship

2001 World Youth Championships, Oropesa, Spain, November 2001:
Hikaru Nakamura won the Silver medal in the Boys under 14 section. The Gold medal in the 106 player section was won by Hungary's Viktor Erdos. Hikaru was the only medalist among 14 U.S.players. Area players included Katherine Pelletier and Michael Thaler of Manhattan, Laura Ross and Fabiano Caruana of Queens, Teddy Coleman of Scarsdale, Aaron Pixton of Binghamton, and Dmitry Schneider of Rockland.
